Citadel Insurance Services Sees a 2000% Surge in HO-4 Applications with AWS and NexusLeap
Founded in 2008, Citadel Insurance Services is committed to delivering cutting-edge industry products. Unfortunately, Citadel faced limitations with its previous cloud-based software that were impacting API and data management. Citadel found the right AWS Partner, NexusLeap, for its needs through AWS IQ. The result was a 2000 percent surge in HO-4 growth, thousands of new tenants, and an empowered engineering team equipped for continued innovation on AWS.

Disrupted Data Flow Plus Limited Scalability Equal Missed Opportunities
Citadel Insurance Services offers property insurance products that help property managers ensure their tenants have adequate coverage through HO-4 policies. Envisioning the future, Citadel wanted to connect to external data sources via APIs to collect information from property management companies. This would help Citadel operate more efficiently and also generate new business leads. However, its previous ecosystem was unable to effectively handle API requests, and it had numerous limitations when it came to the acquisition, transfer, and storage of data.
A New Ecosystem Built with Surgical Precision for Efficient API Management
Citadel’s first step towards optimizing its data was migrating from its former cloud-based provider to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for more power and less limits. Citadel also teamed with AWS IQ, a service that links customers with AWS Certified experts, for support learning about AWS and developing a custom API solution. “Working AWS IQ was incredibly easy—from finding a pre-vetted expert to facilitating payments—we couldn’t have asked for a more streamlined process,” notes Cody Gray, data engineer at Citadel. Citadel connected with NexusLeap, a cloud analytics consulting firm with a focus on building infrastructure to enable businesses in converting chaotic data landscapes into actionable insights. Gray highlights, “NexusLeap immediately understood our challenges and needs. With thoughtful and clear communication and documentation, NexusLeap got our teams up and running quickly. If we have any additional AWS development needs, we're going back to NexusLeap!”
To simplify the process of building, deploying, and scaling APIs for Citadel, NexusLeap used Amazon API Gateway. AWS Lambda was then integrated to process, parse, and ready data to write to the Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) database. Using AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), NexusLeap strengthened Citadels’ security posture with fine-grained permissions in place. Lastly, the existing frontend was modified to interact with the new API and handle user inputs at scale.
Empowering Engineers to Innovate in the Cloud
After migrating to AWS and deploying NexusLeap’s solution, Citadel saw a 2000 percent surge in HO-4 growth. Equally impressive, however, is NexusLeap’s commitment to creating a culture of continuous learning and growth at Citadel.
“NexusLeap is passionate about enabling businesses with technology and empowering engineering teams to be self-sufficient so that businesses like Citadel can reduce their dependency on non- AWS resources while increasing their overall agility,” explains Madhav Srinath, CEO at NexusLeap.
