Collegely Increases Performance with AWS IQ and OneData Software Solutions
Education is universal, but college isn’t for everyone. To encourage on-the-job education, collaboration, and community in the trades industry, startup founder Isaac Ewhuiknebueze created an online destination for skilled craftspeople and coined it Collegely. With help from OneData Software Solutions, Collegely migrated to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for auto-scaling compute, optimized storage management, improved performance, and better security.

Performance Issues Stunt Startup’s Growth
Collegely is a secure, online job board and marketplace for the trades industry where job seekers and employers connect, create ads, and buy or sell items. As the startup grew, they encountered issues deploying WordPress plugin updates. “Files were not updating from the backend because we’d reached our server’s file limit,” explains Collegely founder Isaac Ewhuiknebueze. “The scaling limitations of our existing cPanel setup were hindering our functionality and our ability to scale.”
AWS Provides High Availability and Scalability
Collegely turned to AWS IQ to select a partner who could help. Within hours, the startup was working with OneData, a consulting firm, who resolved Collegely’s issues without jeopardizing the website’s load times.
By migrating the WordPress site from cPanel to AWS, OneData enabled a more secure, flexible, and scalable environment. The site was set up to run on an Amazon EC2 instance with auto-scaling capabilities, ensuring the number of instances automatically adjusts based on demand. Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) was also used to store site files and databases, optimizing storage management and improving performance.
Cost Savings and Faster Load Times Improve Business
“After migrating to Amazon EC2, we eliminated our issue with file size limits and customers have noticed the site is loading faster,” says Ewhuiknebueze. “Pages come up quicker, which definitely improves their experience with Collegely.”
By leveraging AWS, Collegely now has a wide range of services and resources to support the website's growth. This included Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES), a cloud email service for sending bulk transactional or marketing emails. “It used to take forever for users to receive a link to verify their account or reset a password,” says Ewhuiknebueze. “Amazon SES is very handy and more cost-effective than other solutions.”
Ewhuiknebueze also received a startup founder discount from AWS that provided an additional cost savings opportunity and is planning to continue working with OneData as Collegely grows.
