Unseen Optimizes Costs and Boosts Security with AWS IQ and CloudiQS
Unseen, a game development studio, needed a virtual private network (VPN) that could provide quick and secure access to support its growing remote workforce. Through AWS IQ, it engaged CloudiQS to establish network connectivity and enhance security measures. CloudiQS developed a tool for seamless connectivity for Unseen’s developers worldwide and implemented Instance Scheduler on AWS to optimize costs. With the simplicity of AWS Client VPN and CloudiQS's automated services, Unseen can focus on game development and launch securely.

Global Startup Needs Networking Fuel
Unseen is a quickly growing game development startup based in Tokyo, with developers working both onsite and around the globe. When the pandemic started in 2020, the company instituted a work-from-home policy but didn’t have the infrastructure to support its growing remote workforce. It needed a VPN solution that could provide its worldwide developers with quick and secure access to the network and all its resources.
Unseen was also looking to cost optimize and scale to meet its growth plans. It wanted a hybrid serverless infrastructure to support its product launch. Unseen chose Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its speed and ability to scale while keeping data secure.
Network Transformation Boosts Security and Connectivity
CloudiQS worked with Unseen to set up AWS Client VPN. “To optimize costs and enhance security, we created a new Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and established network connectivity between Unseen’s on-premises infrastructure and AWS,” says Steve Kodra, cofounder of CloudiQS. “We implemented a new VPN route and re-architected some of Unseen’s on-premises infrastructure to remove public facing IPs.”
Because AWS Client VPN prioritizes simplicity and easy management, developers around the world can now quickly and securely connect to the network with a single click. CloudiQS also implemented a growth model that safeguards Unseen’s valuable data assets, as well as fully automated backup policies to ensure data protection.
Automated Services Power Cost Savings
Unseen faced the daily task of manually switching its servers on and off. Because these servers fuel gaming applications, they consume a significant amount of power. If one were mistakenly left running, the costs could be substantial. To address this, CloudiQS implemented Instance Scheduler on AWS, which automatically turns instances on and off and has proven to be a cost-saving measure.
“By automatically turning off instances that power our gaming development platform, we don’t have to pay for what we aren’t using,” says Futoshi Miyamoto, chief information officer at Unseen. There is no need for manual intervention. Developers simply add tags when building new servers, making the process automatic.
“The automated AWS-based services that CloudiQS implemented enable us to focus on creating exceptional games. Our well-architected infrastructure ensures that when we’re ready to launch, we can do it securely and with ease,” says Miyamoto.
